Developing hospice care in Great Yarmouth & Waveney
St Elizabeth Hospice is delighted to have partnered with East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) to begin to provide specialist palliative care for the people of Great Yarmouth and Waveney from 1 April 2019.
Under this arrangement, patients will have access to six beds at Beccles Hospital which will be supported by our consultant and nursing staff. In addition, we will be providing specialist support into the James Paget Hospital, operating a 24/7 helpline for the use of health professionals, patients and their relatives, and some support in peoples own homes.
Whilst this is an excellent start in delivering services local people need and is funded through the NHS, we believe there is so much more that needs to be done so that people in the area can enjoy the same level of service that exists in the rest of Suffolk and across most of the UK. This involves growing the capacity to help support more people where they want to be – usually at home, as well as delivering a much needed Hospice service.
In common with elsewhere, this can only be achieved with the charitable support of local people and businesses.
St Elizabeth is committed to working with ECCH and seeking to build an alliance with other charities who share these ambitions, including East Coast Hospice and the Louise Hamilton Centre, to deliver on these objectives as soon as possible in the interests of local people. We have pledged that any funds coming from the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area will be used to support patients from the area.
Ian Turner, Chairman of St Elizabeth Hospice says “We are delighted to be working alongside ECCH in this exciting project. It commits our organisations to a partnership for at least the next five years.“During this time, we very much hope to build on the initial agreement by working alongside other partners in the area to secure the full range of hospice services.
“We intend to issue further updates as our discussions progress in the coming months We remain hugely grateful to all of our loyal supporters, without whom this project development would be simply impossible.”
