Dedicate a sunflower to remember someone special

28 June 2018
A local charity has today launched its annual remembrance event to celebrate the lives of special people no longer with us and raise vital funds for their work.

Sunflower Memories, sponsored by Attwells Solicitors, is the St Elizabeth Hospice’s annual summer remembrance event and this year will take place on Sunday 12 August in the hospice garden on Foxhall Road.

The event sees those who have experienced hospice care come together for tea, cake, music and reflection as they remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

Rachel Slattery, individual giving fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Over the years, many people have formed a special bond with the hospice through the care we have given to their loved ones and it’s lovey to be able to gather together in the garden and remember those special people no longer with us.

“Sunflower Memories gives us the chance to be able to meet and thank many of our supporters who continue to donate to the hospice, enabling us to offer our services free of charge to local people who need our care.

Those wishing to support the hospice can do so by dedicating a sunflower emblem in the name of someone they wish to remember. Sunflowers will then be displayed around the hospice garden on the preview day for event attendees to view them and then will remain in the garden until end of September when they can then be collected and placed somewhere special.

This year, the

event is sponsored by Attwells Solicitors and Joanne Holmes from the property law firm said: “We’re extremely proud to be supporting Sunflower Memories this year. The hospice is a key part of the local community and many of our staff and clients have benefited from the services the offer. It’s really important for us to get involved with other organisations which serve the area and those within it and that’s why we’re really pleased to be able to support Sunflower Memories and help raise vital funds for St Elizabeth Hospice.”

Those who dedicate sunflowers do not have to have had experience of hospice services and are not obliged to attend the event, however, as the event has grown in popularity over the years, tickets will be issued this year and numbers are limited. Those wishing to attend the preview event will need to request a ticket when they dedicate a sunflower at stelizabethhospice.org.uk/sunflowers.
