Cyclists raise thousands of pounds for Hospice

11 September 2011

Around 250 people used pedal power to raise at least £10,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice by taking part in a sponsored ride called On Your Bike!

Serious cyclists, leisure riders and families were among those who chose from three routes around Suffolk, leaving from the Royal Hospital School in Holbrook on Sunday morning (Sep 11th).

There were 75 mile and 50 mile challenges, taking in picturesque countryside and villages, as well as an 11.5 mile route for all ages and abilities around the Shotley peninsula.

Organiser Emily Sullivan, of St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part and the volunteers who helped out on the day. This year for the first time we added a 75 mile route which has proved extremely popular. We hope to have raised more than £10,000 which will help St Elizabeth Hospice continue to provide its services free of charge to the local community.”

Mrs Sullivan also thanked the Royal Hospital School for allowing St Elizabeth Hospice to use the venue for the second year running as well as the local pubs along the routes which provided refreshment stops.

The Hospice’s next event is a Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 25th September at Alton Water near Holbrook. Click here to find out more
