Countess of Euston Declares Support for St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice Ambitions
Following the recent news of St Elizabeth Hospice and East Coast Hospice merging to form St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice, on 30th June we invited some supporters of East Coast Hospice to an event, to look ahead to the partnership’s plans for the coming months.
Held at The Waveney Hotel, Beccles, the event featured presentations by hospice Chair of Trustees, Ian Turner, and Judi Newman, Chief Executive Officer at the hospice, as well as endorsements from Clare, Countess of Euston, and Jonathan Chadd, son of Margaret Chadd – who played a key role as a driving force behind the East Coast Hospice movement.
The event outlined how St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice will build upon and work in conjunction with our existing service provision with East Coast Community Healthcare, which has supported more than 4,000 patients and their families in Great Yarmouth and Waveney since launching in April 2019.
We were delighted to welcome both Jonathan Chadd and Lady Clare, to the event, with Lady Clare saying: “For the last 25 years I have lived in the county there has been talk of an ‘east coast hospice’, and the need for one to serve Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth has always been immense.
“So I am delighted to hear the news that St Elizabeth Hospice has joined forces with the East Coast Hospice team. I think we can now all look forward to what we have dreamt about, coming to fruition in the months and weeks ahead.
“We are really on track and I could not be more thrilled. I am so grateful to everyone who has worked hard for this and made it possible. This is such good news.”
With presentations highlighting the ambitions of St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice to create an achievable and sustainable palliative and end of life care service for the communities of Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
Hannah Bloom, Director of Income Generation at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Thank you so much to all who came to join with us and learn more about St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice’s ambitions for the east coast community.
“The merger, to form St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice, demonstrates our shared commitment to delivering a sustainable palliative and end-of-life care service and we look forward to working alongside all our stakeholders to ensure we develop a clear plan which best serves the needs of this local area.”
More information will be announced in the coming months as the St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice team collaborate to conduct a full feasibility study for current and future needs with stakeholders and clearly outline a plan for the communities of Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
