Community Care Unit Fun Day is Big Success

06 July 2023

St Elizabeth Hospice’s Community Care Unit was alive with the sound of music and conversation this Thursday, as the Community Care Unit team hosted their first ever Event Day for service users and their families.

Performances from St Elizabeth Hospice Choir, Mr Smooth and Lorri & Gray, brought songs from the swinging 60s, the Ratpack and popular country musicians to the hospice garden as part of the event.

Throughout the day, service users and their families had the chance to view the entertainment, while also socialising and enjoying a range of savoury snacks and cake provided by Venue16.

David Price, who has been using the hospice’s Community Care Unit services (previously known as Day Care services) since 2012, said: “Today has been wonderful. So much work and organisation has gone into the day, and we are all so appreciative of everyone who gave up their time to make today possible.

“It has been lovely to see so many people visiting the Community Care Unit today and to meet both new and familiar faces.”

Based at the hospice Ridley’s Atrium, in Ipswich, the Community Care Unit launched in 2021 to replace our former Day Care services.

Community Care Unit offers the opportunity for patients’ wellbeing and social needs to be met, while also enabling the convenience of all necessary healthcare appointments to be organised and completed in one location on the same day.

Chloe Whayman, Community Care Unit Health Care Assistant, said: “Doing this for our Community Care Unit service users today, really highlights the services we have available but also provides a social opportunity for patients and their families.

“Thank you to Lorri & Gray, Mr Smooth, the hospice choir and Venue16, as well as all the volunteers and hospice staff who supported the event. Hopefully it is the first of many more to come.”
