Charity Night Raises £5,150 for St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice
More than £5,150 has been raised for St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice via a Charity Night held by Barry Rose in memory of his wife, Ruth Langslow, who received support from the charity at Beccles Hospital until her death this year.
Hosted at the Royal Assembly Rooms, in Great Yarmouth, on 24th November, the Charity Night included a star performance by a Beatles’ tribute band, a disco, a raffle – with 100 prizes – and auction featuring a wide range of items to bid upon, including , luxury holiday and a goalkeeping glove signed by Sir Gordon Banks.
All funds raised will go towards St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice which provided support to Barry’s wife, Ruth, until her death in May 2023, after she was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus.
Barry said: “It was a strange feeling for me and very emotional. It was my last chance to comply with my wife’s dying wishes and show our gratitude to the team at St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice, who treated us both so wonderfully.
“I wanted to provide a wonderful evening in Ruth’s memory and raise as much money as possible for the hospice to thank them, the staff, consultants and everybody for allowing me those special days to spend with my wife before she sadly passed away.
“They were all so wonderful there, and went far beyond the call of duty and I never will forget the time I spent there. I would love to thank all my fellow brethren from my lodges. My personal friends and the staff at The Royal Assembly Rooms for all the help making the evening, a fantastic success.”
Since launching in April 2019, more than 4,475 patients and their families in Great Yarmouth and Waveney have been supported by the free specialist palliative care provided by the joint partnership of St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice and East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH).
Typically living with conditions such as cancer, heart failure, chronic lung diseases – such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – and neurological disorders, these patients have received free care through the partnership’s varied, specialist palliative care provision available at Beccles Hospital, in the community and through the service’s 24-hour advice line, OneCall.
Barry kindly invited a number of St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice staff to attend the evening, including the care team who supported him and his wife at Beccles Hospital and Community Fundraiser, Kelly Nekrews.
