Calling brave ‘soles’ to take on fundraising Firewalk

Independent Suffolk charity St Elizabeth Hospice is calling on all brave ‘soles’ to take part in its autumn Firewalk 2022.

Taking place on Saturday 22nd October the event will see fearless fire walkers cross barefoot over a 15ft path of red-hot embers in aid of the hospice, which provides free services to improve life for people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness across East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

Taking place at Venue 16 (formerly Greshams), participants will undergo one hour of training before embarking on their fiery challenge which is described as similar to walking on hot sand.

Becky Jedrzejewski, events and challenges fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Firewalk is returning once again for 2022 and it will provide supporters the ideal way to get warmed up for the autumn months, while at the same time supporting the hospice.

“We have limited places available so make sure you sign up as soon as you can to avoid disappointment and we look forward to welcoming you all in October when you take on your fiery challenges!”

Sponsored by Escape Ipswich, Firewalk will be held between 6pm-10pm on 22nd October and will feature a wide range of drink and street food – including chilli, burgers, fish & chips – for participants, friends and family to enjoy.

One brave ‘sole’ taking part in this year’s Firewalk is St Elizabeth Hospice nurse, Jo Shaw, who added: “I am really looking forward to the Firewalk this autumn. It is something I have never done before and it’s a great opportunity to support the hospice.

“The nursing team are always overwhelmed by the support we receive from the local community, so it will be great to have the chance to fundraise together with them for the hospice and I am sure there will be a fantastic atmosphere.”

Each fearless fire walker will need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £25 and pledge to raise a minimum of £150, with all participants receiving support from an experienced fundraiser to help boost sponsorship money
