Businesses off to a flying start for St Elizabeth Hospice’s Accumulator Challenge
A series of fundraising events has been held by Suffolk businesses taking part in St Elizabeth Hospice’s Accumulator Challenge.
It’s just a month since the launch of the initiative, which involves organisations turning a £50 stake into more cash for the charity, and already the teams are off to a flying start.
Several fun and wacky events have been held to generate much-needed funds so the Hospice can continue to provide its £9.1m a year services free of charge to people in East Suffolk and South Norfolk.
Among the fundraisers to have taken place are:
- Energie Fitness for Women – a bake-off was arranged for their female fitness customers, but only after they had burnt off the calories in their brand new Smoulder and Sizzle class which is held on a Monday evening from 6.15pm-7.15pm
- Baker Tilly – a rounders tournament with 12 very competitive teams, a great barbecue and raffle.
- Fred Olsen Cruise – Fred’s Toastie Café involved staff spending a lunchtime making toasted sandwiches for colleagues for a donation. A car boot sale was also held.
- Ensors Saxmundham – a 25-mile bike ride around the Suffolk countryside was completed by seven staff – Carl Page, Jeanette Brierley, Jonathan Wingfield, David Fairbank, Anna Holt, Deborah Botting and Nick Strawson.
- Grass Solutions – held a bake sale in the foyer of the Solar store in Framlingham.
- Daisy Distribution – organised a car boot sale.
- Barclays in Framlingham – kicked off a raffle with lots of wonderful prizes, including signed merchandise donated by Suffolk’s Ed Sheeran and items donated by local shops. If you are in the area pop in to have a look.
Sarah Archer, Business Partnerships Team Leader at St Elizabeth Hospice, said she was pleased with the range of events and all the creativity the companies had put into them.
She said: “What a great start to the Accumulator Challenge. All teams are well on their way to raising a substantial amount of money for the Hospice. There are just two months left until the challenge ends and we are looking forward to finding out how much has been raised and which team has come out top of the league table.”
Events coming up include a Wine and Cheese Night being hosted by East of England Co-Op Funeral Directors on Friday 25th October, with tickets costing just £3.
At the end of the three months there will an awards and Thank You evening and a profile of the winning organisation will be published in Business East Monthly.
