Businesses celebrate fundraising effort in aid of Hospice

06 February 2015

St Elizabeth Hospice’s Accumulator Challenge has drawn to a close and local businesses who took part attended a Thank You evening to celebrate their fundraising efforts over the last few months.

12 teams from local companies across East Suffolk took part in the scheme which saw each team being given £50 and three months to turn that into as much charity cash as possible – in whatever (safe and legal) way they wished.

This is the third year the St Elizabeth Hospice has run the popular Accumulator Challenge and this year around £9,000 has been raised for the Hospice.

A Thank You evening was held at the Hospice on Thursday 5th February to congratulate and thank all the organisations who took part and raised vital funds for – and most importantly to give the winning team, Ensors, their plaque for raising an amazing £2,800.

At the end of the evening, everyone was given a tour of the Hospice, where they could see and hear for themselves how the money raised benefits the people that the Hospice cares for every year.

Carole Leggett, who led the winning team from Ensors Saxmundham and Ipswich, said: “This is the second year that we have participated in St Elizabeth Hospice’s Accumulator Challenge and we are thrilled to have come first.

“We have really enjoyed taking part and raising money for such a worthy cause which we achieved by holding cakes sales, a sleep out and taking part in the Suffolk Whole Hog.”

Brian Taylor, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Partnerships Fundraiser, said: “Our third Accumulator Challenge has been a great success and we are very grateful to all the teams that took part and embraced the challenge of turning £50 into as much money as they could.

“There were some fantastic ideas to raise money for us including two very unique fundraising events, with Carole and Katie from Ensors having a sponsored sleep-out in their car park, and Samuel Stamp-Dod from Orwell Network organised a balloon launch at Seckford Golf Club.

“Thank you to everyone that took part and to Business East Monthly for their support.”

Businesses who took part include: Barclays Framlingham; Ensors Saxmundham and Ipswich; Alder Tree Ice Cream; Grass Solutions; Halifax Felixstowe; Pentalver; Barclays Stowmarket; Orwell Network; Ansaback; and Barclays Saxmundham.
