Brother and sister raise more than £800 for St Elizabeth Hospice after completing Captain Tom 100 Challenge

After completing the Captain Tom 100 Challenge, a brother and sister have raised more than £800 for St Elizabeth Hospice to show their gratitude to the hospice for the care and support its staff gave to their family.

Between 30th April to 3rd May, Louisa and Theo Adde both covered 101 miles, through four days of walking and cycling, in memory of their relative Kevin Sloane and to mark the 101st birthday of their Grandma, Madge Fowler, who lives in Woodbridge and who celebrated her landmark birthday this year.

They completed their endurance challenge as part of the nationwide fundraising initiative which paid tribute to Captain Tom Moore across the weekend of his birthday. The Captain Tom 100 Challenge encouraged people to raise money for charities by completing a fundraising challenge featuring the number of 100, whether this is a 100 mile bike ride, dancing for 100 minutes or baking 100 cakes.

Louisa and Theo, who both live in London but share a love of Suffolk through spending many family holidays in Aldeburgh, Felixstowe and Woodbridge visiting relatives, were inspired to raised funds for the hospice, after their mother’s cousin, Kevin, received care from St Elizabeth Hospice, at home and in the hospice’s Inpatient Unit, before his death at the hospice in 2019.

Louisa said: “It was quite tough but we both really enjoyed ourselves and it was great to spend some time together, plus the pub on Saturday was excellent, if a little cold!

“There were a couple of times when it looked like the weather would go against us, but apart from some hail it was ok and it was so nice to finish the challenge with a walk on the Monday morning with our parents, on the day of their 30th wedding anniversary.

“Completing the challenge in Kevin’s memory and supporting the hospice was really special ,and Theo and I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped us fundraise. Seeing the messages of support and donations coming in over the weekend was a massive motivation for us to keep going.”

Louisa is no stranger to completing endurance challenges in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice as in October 2020, she raised £2,900 for the independent Suffolk charity through completing the London Marathon in memory of Kevin.
