Breheny claims victory at RideFest final

09 March 2018
A local civil engineering company has ridden to victory in a local charity’s cycling event final this evening.

The team from Breheny claimed the yellow jersey at St Elizabeth Hospice’s RideFest final this evening after cycling 10.73kms in the final round of the competition.

Local businesses competed in the static bike challenge throughout two weeks in February and all came together to fight it out at the grand final at Trinity Park. Breheny fought off fellow finalists Beagle Property, Howden Joinery and even beat a second team of their own to claim the bragging rights for the next 12 months.

Other winners on the night included Shaun Collins from Beagle Property who took the crown in the CEO race but one of the highlights of the evening was the mascot race which was won by Pound the Hound from Ipswich Building Society for the second year in a row.

Dan Croft from Breheny also took home the crown for the fasted kilometre on the night, completing the distance in just 42 seconds.

SJ Middleton, corporate fundraising manager for St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We’ve had a fantastic evening and well done to Breheny on their victory. Thanks really do go to everyone who has taken part in RideFest throughout February and March and helped raise money for the hospice. The charity needs to generate £10.5million a year to provide our services free of charge to our patients and the money raised by these dedicated businesses will really help us look after local people and their families. Here’s to RideFest 2019!”
