Around 150 walkers step out for St Elizabeth Hospice’s Walk of Thoughts 2013

03 March 2013

The seventh annual sponsored Walk of Thoughts took place on Sunday 3rd March organised by St Elizabeth Hospice.

Around 150 people completed the circular six-mile route which started from Woolverstone Hall at Ipswich High School and took in stunning views of the River Orwell.

The event was an opportunity to remember a friend or loved one, or to simply enjoy walking in the wonderful surroundings.

Walkers were invited to write the name of their loved one on a pebble, provided by the Hospice and were given a seed bookmark to plant in memory when they returned home.

Before the walk there was an opportunity for reflection led by Hospice chaplaincy volunteer Ann Baeppler.

The event raised around £8,000 for the Hospice, which costs £8.7m a year to provide services free of charge to people in East Suffolk and South East Norfolk living with a progressive illness and support for their families.

Walk of Thoughts organiser Emily Sullivan, of St Elizabeth Hospice, said:  “It was a lovely spring day and great to see so many supporters turning out for the Hospice. Thank you to all the walkers –  and the many volunteers who helped on the day.”

Mrs Sullivan also thanked the Butt and Oyster pub in Pin Mill, which kindly allowed the Hospice to use their patio as a refreshments stop, and Ipswich High School.

St Elizabeth Hospice’s next fundraising event is the challenging Great Xscape on Saturday 6th April.
