Andrew Raises Over £4,000 for Local Causes with 800km Cycle
More than £4,000 has been raised for St Elizabeth Hospice, East Anglian Children’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support by Andrew Horne, after he completed an 800km cycle ride to Berlin, in memory of Henry Knight.
Taking place in April 2023, Andrew’s cycle to the German capital city was in honour of his friend, Tony Knights’ son, Henry, who passed away aged 29-years-old from cancer in February 2022.
Andrew, who lives in Brandeston, said: “So many people were shocked and profoundly affected by the tragic passing of Henry at such a young age. I had wanted to ride to Berlin since before lockdown and thought it would possibly be a great opportunity to raise some money in Henry’s honour.
“I was fortunate to be surrounded by such good family, friends (and even some total strangers to me!), who have kindly donated. I’ve been totally blown away by all of their fantastic support.
“Aside from an unwanted ‘stiff-headwind’ all the way from the Hook of Holland to Berlin, the ride was a fantastic mini-adventure. During the ride my thoughts were so often with those less fortunate; yes, pedalling may hurt from time to time, but it really is a privilege to be physically active.
“I really hope that as well as raising funds for these charities and their fantastic work, we can also help raise awareness for their services throughout the local community.”
In total, Andrew raised £4,165, with all funds going to the three charities.
Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “A massive thank you and congratulations to Andrew for raising such a brilliant sum for the hospice, EACH, Macmillan Cancer Support and Henry’s young family.
“It is a fantastic achievement and every penny raised will make such a difference to so many in the local community, when care matters most.”
