75 year old hospice supporter jumps 10,000ft to raise £1,000
A 75 year old grandmother from Ipswich jumped 10,000ft out of a plane on Saturday 8 August, raising more than £1,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Mim Canham took on the challenge to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice, in memory of her late husband, Stan, who was cared for by the hospice.
Mim Canham said: “I always wanted to do a parachute jump, and I wanted to do it for the hospice because I can’t thank them enough for what they did for my family, and especially for Stan. I couldn’t have coped at home on my own.”
Mim and Stan both received awards for volunteering for St Elizabeth Hospice for five years before Stan was a patient. Mims grandson, Michael, also completed a skydive last July for St Elizabeth Hospice raising more than £2,000 for the local charity.
After the jump Mim said: “I thoroughly enjoyed it! I wasn’t a bit scared, but I think my family were. The instructor was great and the freefall was wonderful! I’d definitely recommend it.”
Fearless Mim is planning on taking on an abseil next year with a friend, as well as organising a fundraising event on Saturday 24 October at the Conservative Club on Clapgate Lane for the hospice.
