10th Midnight Walk raises over £200,000

20 July 2016

Thousands of neon walkers have raised more than £200,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice following its Midnight Walk.

The local charity’s flagship event celebrated its 10th birthday on 7 May with more than 2,200 men and women taking part in the neon-themed walk.

Organisers have today announced that the sponsorship money paid in by participants has now totalled over £200,000 – and more money is still coming in.

The Midnight Walk saw people aged 10 and upwards walking either a five or ten mile route around Ipswich, with more people than ever before taking part to support the local hospice.

Catherine Sheppard, St Elizabeth Hospice’s events and challenges fundraiser, said: “We are delighted to announce that our tenth birthday Midnight Walk has raised more than £200,000 for the hospice.

“This year has been a hugely successful event, with a record-breaking number of people taking part, and raising this incredible amount is the icing on the birthday cake!

“Thank you to everyone who raised sponsorship or sponsored somebody. The amazing amount raised will make a real difference to the lives of our patients and their families living with a progressive illness such as cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure.”

If you haven’t paid in your sponsorship money yet, there’s still time. Just send your cheque to Midnight Walk, St Elizabeth Hospice, 565 Foxhall Road, Ipswich, IP3 8LX or call 01473 723600 to pay over the phone. If you had an online fundraising page, the hospice will automatically receive your donations.

St Elizabeth Hospice provides vital care and support to more than 2,000 local people and their families every year. It costs millions of pounds a year to run and relies on fundraising events like the Midnight Walk, as well as the income generated from its shops and gifts in wills to meet the majority of its costs.
