Duke of Edinburgh & Work Experience On Boarding

Welcome to St Elizabeth Hospice and thank you for agreeing to volunteer with us as part of your Work Experience or Duke of Edinburgh placement.

In order to complete your application, we need you to read our Work Experience Agreement below and fill in the form on this page to agree to it.

Work Experience Agreement

This agreement sets out both what you, embarking on work experience with St Elizabeth Hospice/Zest, can expect from the organisation in terms of treatment and support, and what the hospice, in turn expects from you in terms of standards and behaviour while you are with us. This agreement reflects the hopes and intentions of you and the hospice and is not contractually binding on either party.

We commit to the following:

  • To introduce you to how our organisation works.
  • To provide any training you need to equip you for your experience with us.
  • To explain the standards and expectations we have of students on a placement with us.
  • To ensure you have the support you need and to give you constructive feedback on your performance.
  • To treat you with respect and dignity and to respect any feedback you may have for us.
  • To treat you as an equal partner within the organisation in line with the Equal Opportunities Policy, with the aims of meeting our goals and fulfilling our mission.

We ask you to the following:

  • To contribute positively towards the aims and objectives of the hospice.
  • To perform tasks to the best of your ability, and in line with any reasonable requests by the manager.
  • To treat everyone you have contact with during your time with us with the utmost respect and dignity, whilst remaining professional at all times.
  • To adhere to the organisation’s Policies and Procedures with particular attention to Health and Safety.
  • To consult with your Link/Line Manager in the first instance or the HR volunteer team if you need any additional help or guidance.
  • If for any reason, e.g. sickness, you are unable to attend for the purpose of your placement, you or someone on your behalf should telephone your placement manager as soon as possible. Details of this contact will be provided prior to your first day.
  • During the course of your placement, you may have access to see or hear information of a confidential nature. All information concerning patients and staff is strictly confidential. You must not disclose any confidential information to anyone outside the hospice or anyone within the hospice who is not authorised to have such confidential information. Any breach of confidentiality will result in discontinuation of the placement.

Either party may terminate this work experience arrangement without notice.
