This Hospice Care Week St Elizabeth Hospice will be highlighting the different places Hospice care is available to patients and families, beyond our Hospice building.
The theme of this year’s Hospice Care Week (6-12 October) is Hospice care, everywhere.
St Elizabeth Hospice’s care is centred around an individual’s needs, which means specialist support, wherever it is required, whether at home, in the community or at the Hospice.
The Hospice also supports nursing homes so their staff have the skills and knowledge to support residents who have specialist palliative care needs.
Throughout Hospice Care Week St Elizabeth Hospice staff will be out and about raising awareness about Hospice care – everywhere they go.
Its 25 shops will also be getting involved, so pop in to your nearest Hospice store and do your bit for Hospice Care Week by shopping, donating items or how about signing up to volunteer in the shop!
Verity Jolly, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Director of Patient Services, said: “During Hospice Care Week we will be encouraging our supporters to share their stories and memories of Hospice care and help spread the word that Hospice care is available everywhere.
“Many people, when they hear the word Hospice, think of a building and while patients and families do benefit from our care at our various locations in East Suffolk and South Norfolk, the majority of people are cared for in their homes, through our day services or outpatient clinics.
“Our Community Nursing Teams, which encompasses our Hospice at Home 24/7 service and our Community Clinical Nurse Specialists and Community Healthcare Assistants, work together to provide our services as close to people’s homes or in their homes as possible, depending on need and preference.
“Our Hospice at Home nurse-led service particularly aims to prevent unwanted admissions to hospital or the Hospice when it is the patient’s wish to remain at home for end-of-life care.”
