Quiz night raises £40,000 for hospice

A Quiz Night organised by a committee of St Elizabeth Hospice supporters has raised more than £40,000 for the local charity.

The event was held at Trinity Park, Ipswich on 28 April and included a raffle and an amazing auction with generously donated prizes ranging from local fishing trips and drawing lessons to wonderful holiday houses in Norfolk, Wales, Scotland and France.

Tizy Wellesley Wesley, one of the committee members who organised, and was the driving force behind the Quiz Night, said: “It was a really enjoyable evening and I would like to thank everyone who came along and donated a prize to help raise funds for the hospice. We have raised a good amount for the hospice and had fun doing so!

The Quiz Night saw the launch of St Elizabeth Hospice’s Cicely Society which has been established to thank supporters who have made arrangements to leave a gift in their will to the hospice. The Cicely Society is named after Dame Cicely Saunders who pioneered a way to care for those with end-of-life care needs that puts the person at the heart of the care offered.

Mrs Wellesley Wesley added: “The £40,000 we raised is a good boost to the Cicely Society. That said, the evening was also about keeping people in touch with what the hospice does in our community and relaying the fact that our services extend way beyond helping those in the last weeks of life. The message is that we want to make sure that people with progressive illnesses are living as well as they can for as long as they can in the knowledge that St Elizabeth Hospice is there to help as and when the need arises. A gift in your will is a very good way to support this invaluable local service.”

Sarah Archer, St Elizabeth Hospice’s major partnerships manager, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to the committee for all their hard work organising this brilliant event. It was a great night and all the money raised will go towards providing care and support to more than 2,000 patients and their families every year.”
