On Your Bike raises £12,000 For St Elizabeth Hospice

Over 200 people turned out for St Elizabeth Hospice’s third annual cycle event On Your Bike!

The event, which raised around £12,000, was held on Sunday 2nd September at Framlingham College and cyclists could choose from four different routes which took them around the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

The 75 mile route was the most popular, with 80 people taking on the challenge with their fellow cyclists, whilst others enjoyed a more relaxing 15 mile route.

Emily Sullivan, event organiser, said: “Thank you to everyone who supported us in this event, all those who took part and the volunteers who helped out prior to and on the day of the event. The support of the local community helps us continue to grow local Hospice care for local people.

“We are very grateful for every penny participants raised in sponsorship as well. Every £100 that was raised is equivalent to the cost of a Hospice nurse for five hours, helping them to continue their vital work improving life for people living with a progressive illness.”

Douglas Flood, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Income Generation Manager, said: “I have taken part in On Your Bike for the past three years, and always enjoy the challenge. The weather was perfect for cycling the 75mile route, and Framlingham College was the ideal start location this year.

“Cycling is a passion of mine so On Your Bike is an ideal event for me, as I can enjoy the challenge and help raise money for the Hospice at the same time.”

St Elizabeth Hospice provides its services free of charge to the local community. It costs £8.7million a year to run, with three quarters of that figure coming from the local community.
