Midnight Walk set to be a night of fun and entertainment

The Hospice’s Midnight Walk is just weeks away and more than 1,200 men and women have already signed up for this fantastic night of fundraising, fitness and entertainment.

The Midnight Walk is the local charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year, raising vital funds so the Hospice can continue to provide care and support to more than 2,000 patients and their families every year.

The event, which is pirate themed this year, takes place on Saturday 16th May, and starts and finishes at Ipswich Town Football Club.

There is plenty of entertainment lined up to keep participants motivated before they set off on their five, eight or 13 mile walk or run, including:

• The Torwood Wheelers
• Just Jay Dance Group
• Escape Reality

All these local acts are back after popular demand following appearances at previous Midnight Walks and are all giving their time free of charge.

Just Jay Dance Group will be leading the pirate-themed warm up – with help from Town 102 presenter, Tony Horton, and mascot, Cheeko the Monkey.

The Torwood Wheelers, a group of wheel gymnasts, and Escape Reality, a free running, acrobatic, stunt group, will be performing all evening in the run up to the warm up and are both exhilarating to watch.

Gavin Lamb, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Events Fundraiser, said: “The Midnight Walk has developed and grown so much since it began nine years ago.

“It is now a whole night of fun – we have music, exhilarating entertainment, an energetic, themed warm-up – and the atmosphere is always electric. And most importantly, we have hundreds of men and women uniting, all to raise much needed funds so St Elizabeth Hospice can continue to improve life for local people living with a progressive illness.”

With hundreds already signed up, it’s set to be a successful night and more people are being encouraged to register before the closing date on Thursday 14th May.

Walkers and runners will also be able to get into the pirate-themed spirit by donning fancy dress including: eye patches; bandanas; light-up flashing cutlasses; tri-corn hats; hat headbands and more – all available in St Elizabeth Hospice shops and on sale on the night.

The Midnight Walk 2015 is supported by the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Star and Town 102.

Registration costs £15; to sign up or find out more visit www.midnightwalkipswich.co.uk or call 01473 707043. All participants are asked to raise sponsorship.
