Just days left to register for Midnight Walk

Update – online registration is now closed.

There’s just days left to sign up for St Elizabeth Hospice’s Midnight Walk which is already set to be the biggest one in Ipswich for several years.

Over 1,400 men and women have registered to walk or run round Ipswich Town centre on Saturday 10th May, raising money for the local charity.

And online registration closes at 10pm this Thursday – so anyone wanting to take part should register now!

The Midnight Walk is suitable for any fitness ability and offers participants the option to walk or run either five or eight miles, or 13 miles – Ipswich’s first night-time half-marathon.

This year’s event has a cowboy and cowgirl theme and merchandise including cowboy hats, feather boas and boppers will be on sale on the night at Ipswich Town Football Club, where the event starts and finishes.

In line with the western theme, there will also be a country western style warm-up and there will be entertainment at the football club before the walkers and runners set off, with the Just Jay dance group doing a ten-minute medley and the chance for you to have a go riding a bucking bronco.

One group getting in with the theme are the ‘Blister Sisters’ made up of six women, including St Elizabeth Hospice nurse Andrea English, of Reydon, near Southwold, who will be running the thirteen mile route. Mrs English, who works at St Elizabeth Hospice Day Care in Gorleston, said: “Six of us local girls in Reydon decided to set ourselves a challenge, running the half-marathon at the Midnight Walk. We will all be dressing up and cowboy hats and rhinestones will definitely be making an appearance!”

Leanne Carhart, St Elizabeth Hospice’s Lead Events and Challenges Fundraiser, said: “It’s going to be the biggest, fun-filled night for years and we hope everybody will get in the country and western spirit and dress up cowboy style and really get involved in the entertainment and warm up.

“We are also encouraging everyone who has signed up to raise as much sponsorship as possible. All the money raised will go towards helping provide local Hospice care for local people and really will make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families and carers.”

It’s not too late to sign up, just visit www.midnightwalkipswich.co.uk to register online.

Registration closes at 10pm on Thursday 8th May.
