Ipswich Half Marathon raised money for St Elizabeth Hospice

What a day, was the overriding comment from the organisers of the second Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon which raised money for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Larking Gowen, Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich JAFFA running club are delighted that the second year was an even greater success than the first.  This event is sponsored by Larking Gowen chartered accountants and business advisors, up to and including 2012.  More than 1,000 runners completed the undulating 13.1 mile course that ran through local communities, Ipswich town centre and Christchurch Park on Sunday 29th August.
The tremendous support from members of the public as they ran through the streets of Ipswich was wonderful to see and their encouragement helped many of the runners to keep going.
David King, partner at Larking Gowen, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be involved in this half marathon which helps to promote sport and healthy living, not only in Ipswich but in the surrounding counties. By their great efforts those running have helped raise money for the two very worthwhile local nominated charities, St Elizabeth Hospice and Team Ipswich Sports Foundation.  The atmosphere at Northgate Sports Centre on the day was full of fun and determination to complete the race, with people driving many miles to take part in this event.  A big thank you must also go to all those willing volunteers on the day, as without them the race could not happen.”

Councillor Andrew Cann, the Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Arts, Culture and Leisure, said, “It was wonderful to see so many people taking part in this fantastic event which celebrates the town on its route through the community. The organising partners have done a fantastic job in making 2011 such a success.”

Carl Brooks, Business Income Generation Manger for St Elizabeth Hospice, said, “This was a great event for the town and we are very grateful for all those who chose to run for St Elizabeth Hospice and everyone who gave so generously to our collection on the day. Your support will enable us to provide care for patients and support for their families, friends and carers throughout East Suffolk.”

Terry Back, Race Director for Jaffa Running Club, said, “The race committee and other members of Jaffa are absolutely delighted with the success of the 2010 race and are already looking forward to an even bigger and better race in 2011.”

It has also been announced that the date for the 2011 race will be Sunday 25th September and that the entry price will be held at the 2010 cost for all l those entering prior to January 1st, 2011.
