Hospice nurses to complete Hoot Hike to raise funds

A group of St Elizabeth Hospice nurses are set to take part in the hospice’s Hoot Hike to raise funds for the charity.

Taking place on 19th June, the Hoot Hike will officially launch the Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 art trail, which will be held in Ipswich this summer. As part of the Big Hoot 2022, 50 ornately decorated owl sculptures, featuring a range of designs, will be scattered throughout Suffolk’s county town, as part of the biggest free art event in the region.

To help raise funds for the charity and to enjoy the colour and creativity of the Big Hoot, St Elizabeth Hospice nurses – Julie Donohoe (pictured left), Debbie Adams (pictured right), Karen Barker, Kelly Irodenko, Rachel Wheeler and Rebecca Richardson – will be donning their hospice scrubs and taking on the sponsored 5km Hoot Hike around Ipswich.

The Hoot Hike route will see the nurses, and all participants, beginning their hike in Christchurch Park, where the event village will be located for registration, before they meander past a number of the town’s landmarks and a large selection of the art trail sculptures.

Julie Donohoe, Inpatient Unit Team Leader, said: “As a team we wanted to support and give something back to the hospice and raise awareness of the services provided. This is not just a job to us, it is something that is very close to our hearts.

“The Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 has become a huge focus for the whole of the town. It brings together local people and businesses, while raising support and awareness of our services. We feel proud the hospice has organised an event that has reached out to so many people

“It has been a pleasure to see the brilliantly creative designs for the owls and we are looking forward to a fun event which will bring the local community and families together this summer.”

On the day registration for the Hoot Hike will begin at 11am, with the event featuring three waves of walking groups – 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

Becky Jedrzejewski, events and challenges fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Good luck to Julie and all the hospice nurses taking part in the Hoot Hike, we cannot wait to see them in their scrubs as they complete the walk.

“At the hospice we are all looking forward to the Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 and the Hoot Hike is sure to be a great way to kick start a summer of colour and creativity. So if you would like to take part, please visit our website or register on the day, to help us celebrate in style.”
