Hospice founder Nicholas Ridley dies

Last week one the founding fathers of St Elizabeth Hospice, Nicholas Ridley sadly died.

Nick was involved at the very beginning of the campaign to build a local hospice back in the 1970s and remained an avid supporter of the charity right up until his death.

He was chair of the board of trustees for over 20 years when he stepped aside to become the charity’s president. He was previously chairman of Suffolk Health Authority and had a long record of public service.

In November 2019 Nick attended the hospice 30th-anniversary celebration, where he spoke of his memories of the original appeal and the remarkable growth and development of services which now benefit the local community.

We extend our sympathies to Nick’s family and friends at this time.
