Hospice celebrates invaluable volunteers during dedicated month

St Elizabeth Hospice is celebrating its invaluable helpers during their dedicated Valuing Volunteers Month.

The local charity will be thanking and celebrating their hundreds of helpers throughout June, without whom, they wouldn’t be able to continue to provide their vital care and support to 2,000 patients and families every year.

St Elizabeth Hospice has around 1,200 volunteers giving up their time to support their local hospice, whether that’s through sparing a day a week in the shop, helping on the ward once a fortnight or giving up their day or night to help at a hospice event.

The hospice’s Valuing Volunteers Month, also falls around National Volunteers Week, which will run from 1-12 June this year. The theme for 2016 is ‘The Big Celebration’ to commemorate the big difference the 21 million people who volunteer in the UK make to individuals and communities every day.

Jemma Wood, St Elizabeth Hospice’s volunteer business partner, said: “We are absolutely indebted to our amazing volunteers – without them, we would not be able to open the doors to the hospice or our shops, and we cannot thank them enough for their contribution and dedication.

“Our volunteers really are the lifeblood of the organisation and their help and support allows us to provide the best care possible to our patients and families.

“Between them, our volunteers contribute around 2,000 hours of work a week, saving us an incredible £1.1million a year!

From 1 June, the hospice will be thanking and celebrating their volunteers personally, through their social media channels, and on Sunday 26 June, at a special afternoon tea party, where awards will be given to volunteers who have helped for five, ten, 15, 20 and 25 years.

St Elizabeth Hospice is always looking for more volunteers to be part of their team, with a variety of roles available to fill. To see a full list of volunteer vacancies and to find out more about volunteering, please visit www.stelizabethhospice.org.uk/volunteer
