Hockey teams from across the county will gather at Ipswich School Sports Centre this Saturday to take part in a feast of hockey to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Organised by Ipswich-East Suffolk Hockey Club (IESHC), the charity day will begin at 9.30am with a junior hockey session for youngsters aged under 14, along with a special ‘back to hockey’ session designed to encourage adults to take up the game.
This will be followed by an all-day mixed hockey tournament, starting at 11am, with 12 teams taking part hoping to win the club’s Charity Shield. All funds raised from the day will go towards St Elizabeth Hospice, a charity which is close to hearts of many at Ipswich-East Suffolk Hockey Club through the support the charity provides in the local community.
IESHC chairman, Charlie Farrow, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing everyone for a fun and exciting day of hockey. The club is delighted to be bringing back our charity day and to be raising money for an excellent local cause
“No doubt it will be a fun but competitive day and we look forward to seeing who emerges as the victors. We are very grateful to Ipswich School Sports Centre who have provided the pitches free of charge.”
Spectators are welcome to come along and support the teams and enjoy the sport on show. As well as the hockey action, there will be plenty for families to enjoy, including some junior hockey activities at lunchtime, a bouncy castle, an ice-cream van, and a BBQ and drinks to buy from the Sports Centre bar.
All funds raised will go towards St Elizabeth Hospice which delivers care to improve life for people in East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney living with a progressive or life-limiting illness.
The hospice has also recently launched the Big Hoot Ipswich 2022 art trail, which has seen 50 ornately decorated owl sculptures make their nests throughout Ipswich.
These will be available for everyone to view and enjoy between 19th June and 3rd September, as part of the biggest free art event in Suffolk.
Brandon Orton, Community Fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We are delighted Ipswich-East Suffolk Hockey Club are hosting this fantastic festival of hockey in aid of the hospice.
“Every penny raised really will make a difference to our service provision and on behalf of St Elizabeth Hospice I want to wish the best of luck to all the teams taking part in this week’s tournament.”
