Dragon Boat Festival raises thousands of pounds for St Elizabeth Hospice

The eighth annual East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival held at Lowestoft on Sunday 2nd June raised thousands of pounds for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Crowds flocked to Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad, for the races organised by Gable Events.
Twenty seven teams, including competitors from businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk, all went head-to-head in the dragon boats, as families lined the side of the water to enjoy the racing on a bright sunny day.
St Elizabeth Hospice entered two teams – QE2 crew made up of nurses and health care assistants dressed as the Queen, and Hospice Dragons which included fundraisers and supporters.
St Elizabeth Hospice also had a stand on the day to raise awareness of its local services for local people in Great Yarmouth and Waveney and crews raised sponsorship for the charity.
The Hospice’s Businesses Development Team Leader Sarah Archer said: “We are delighted to have sponsorship pledged of several thousand pounds which could help fund a St Elizabeth Hospice nurse for over two months, which is amazing.
“It was a fantastic day and I would like to thank everyone who supported the event – the crews and their companies, the spectators, the volunteers, BBC Radio Suffolk, the Lowestoft Journal, Waveney District Council and of course Gable Events.
The winners were first-time Dragon Boat competitors Norfolk Wealth Management – based in Filby – who consistently led the field.
St Elizabeth Hospice improves lives for people living with a progressive illness and their families in East Suffolk and South East Norfolk.
