Brave ‘soles’ raise over £10,000

More than 20 brave fire walkers have raised over £10,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice by taking part in the charity’s Firewalk 2024.

Taking place on Friday 18th October the event saw the fearless fire walkers cross barefoot over a 5 metre path of red-hot embers in aid of the hospice, which provides free services to improve life for people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness across East & Mid Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

Held at Ipswich Rugby Club, participants underwent 45 minutes of training before embarking on their fiery challenge, which is described as similar to walking on hot sand.

James Fox-Golding, Events and Challenges Manager at the hospice, said: “Well done to all our brilliant fire walkers. You have raised a fantastic amount for the hospice and it was so lovely to join alongside supporters for what was a great evening.

“Every penny raised really will make a difference as we develop our care to support more patients, and their families, throughout East & Mid Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, during difficult times in their lives when care matters most.”

Sponsored by drax, two Firewalk sessions were held on 18th October, between 3.30pm to 6pm and 7pm to 9.30pm.
