St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice is calling on all brave ‘soles’ to take part in its autumn Firewalk 2024.
Taking place on Friday 25th October the event will see fearless fire walkers cross barefoot over a 5 metre path of red-hot embers in aid of the hospice, which provides free services to improve life for people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness across Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
Taking place at Old Hall Farm, in Southwold, participants will undergo 45 minutes of training before embarking on their fiery challenge which is described as similar to walking on hot sand.
James Fox-Golding, Events and Challenges Manager at the hospice, said: “Firewalk is back again this year, offering the perfect fundraising challenge to warm up ahead of autumn while supporting St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice.
“If you’re up for a fundraising challenge with a fiery twist, this event is for you. Every penny raised will make a real difference to our patients and their families, helping the hospice expand its services and support even more people across the region who need our vital care.”
Sponsored by drax, Firewalk will be held on 25th October, between 7pm and 9.30pm. Old Hall Farm will be selling a range of BBQ food, with vegetarian options available, and drink at the event for participants, friends and family to enjoy, with spectators having free entry.
Among the firewalkers will be St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice’s Chief Executive Officer, Judi Newman, and Chair of the Board, Ian Turner. While Jessica Hayward will also be taking part and lighting the flames for the evening, raising funds for the charity which supported her Nanny, Christine Peek.
“I’m feeling both apprehensive and excited about the Firewalk, but I’m really looking forward to taking part,” said Jessica.
“I have never ever done anything like this before and considering I’m scared of fire, this will definitely be a challenge! However, I am very happy to support the event, helping to raise vital funds and awareness of the support they can offer, in memory of my amazing Nan.”
Each fearless fire walker will need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £25 and pledge to raise a minimum of £100, with support available from the hospice fundraising team. They will also receive a t-shirt and medal for completing the challenge, as well as a hotdog during their session.
There is a free car park at the venue with accessible spaces. The venue is all on one level.
