Donate from as little as £5 a month to Sponsor a Nurse & you’ll be supporting the increased demand for care in your local community…
Sponsor a Nurse
It is anticipated that demand for palliative care will grow by 25.4% by 2040
To support the demand, we will need to provide more nurses in your local community.

Where our nurses provide care
Our hospice nurses work across East Suffolk & Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
The majority of care is provided in patients’ homes, local to you.
Our nurses also work at the Inpatient Unit at the hospice in Ipswich, give specialist support at Beccles Hospital in partnership with East Coast Community Healthcare and are available 24/7 at the end of a phone with the OneCall support line.
A monthly donation to Sponsor a Nurse will make this area of our work sustainable long into the future.
Our nursing teams are made up of:
- Registered Nurses – 8 full time, 19 part-time
- Clinical Nurse Specialists – 17 full time, 15 part-time
- Nurse Consultants – 2 full time
What families have said about our care…
As soon as the specialist palliative care nurses began supporting us things became easier. We are so grateful to them.
Not only did the hospice care for dad, the nurses and staff supported us as a family too.
Acknowledging a loved one is entering into the palliative stage is difficult but the clinical nurse specialists made this transition so much easier and it is reassuring to know you are in safe hands.
The impact of your monthly donation:
a month would fund one 90 min consultation with a Nurse Consultant
a month would fund a Registered Nurse as they triage a call received on OneCall – our 24/7 advice line
a month would fund a holistic visit by a Clinical Nurse Specialist, helping patients to access equipment & support
a month would fund a Registered Nurse to undertake a medication round on the Inpatient Unit
What nursing means to our staff:
I was so pleased to join St Elizabeth Hospice as I was very aware of the high-levels of care they provide, as well as having my own person connection to the hospice movement, after my Nanny received hospice support during her last days, and I remember clearly the care and compassion she was given.
Through hospice fundraising events, purchasing items from our retail shops and supporting campaigns, such as Sponsor a Nurse, every penny raised by supporters makes a huge difference to the team and to the patients and families we are proud to care for.
From my own experience of hospice care, I know how important the all-round support is but the most important role of hospice nurses is to be there and to listen, whenever and wherever we are needed, as patients and their loved ones should never feel alone.
The community support we receive has been out of this world and we cannot thank them enough for their ongoing support which has enabled us to continue to develop our hospice services for the future.
I love how different each day is and how each patient, is a person and an individual, who you tailor your care in order to meet their needs, it’s a real privilege.
I am based at Beccles Hospital and through my role I provide support to the beds we provide specialist care for at the hospital as well as visiting patients in the community, providing supervision and support to trainee doctors to aide their development and supporting our nurses in the community.
I have seen the best of people when they are in their hardest times and to be able to use my skills and experience to help these people is very important to me.
I have always regarded palliative care as an extremely important and special area to work in and I continue to feel very privileged to do so. Many people have said it must be very sad to work at the hospice, which it can be, but it is also the most uplifting and positive place that I have ever worked.
By participating in hospice fundraising events and supporting campaigns, such as Sponsor a Nurse, our supporters make a big difference to the team and to the patients and families we have the privilege of caring for.
Being part of a team which supports people and their families during very difficult times in their lives and helps them to die with dignity, while surrounded by love and compassion, is very important to me and something which motivates me every day.
Through my role with OneCall and visiting patients in the community, I am so proud to be a part of team that delivers care to people during difficult times in their lives. Joining the hospice is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I can’t imagine working anywhere else, it’s a very special place to be and to work.
Since I joined the hospice, the team and our overall service has grown greatly, in order to further meet the needs of the communities we serve. It has changed a lot but the most important thing for me is the quality of care remains the main commitment and focus of the team.
I have met and cared for some incredibly inspirational patients and families and worked alongside some very committed and caring colleagues, I have and still am very lucky to do so.
