Advance Dementia and Palliative Care
This three-hour workshop provides health and social care professionals with the opportunity to explore how to use the principles of palliative care to enhance the care and support to individuals with advance dementia and to maximise their comfort at end of life. Attendees will have the opportunity to consider what the distressed and adaptive behaviours might indicate about the emotional state of mind of the induvial. We will use case studies to consider strategies for assessing the needs of the individual, personalising care and facilitating shared decision making.
On completion of the course, you will:
- Identify symptoms of Advance Stage Dementia.
- Recognise the signs that a person is approaching the end of life.
- Understand types of pain and tools to support pain assessment.
- Reflect on how own communication skills can impact on assessment process and care interventions.
- Understand what is meant by a dignified death and how to support this in practice.

Parking
Parking is limited at all 3 hospice sites so we ask that you park in accordance with the highway code as poor parking creates a reputational risk for the hospices with our neighbours . Due to the residential location of St Helena Hospice, please take note of restricted parking areas along with overflow parking option and footpath route to the hospice. Thank you for your consideration.
Cancellation Policy
Please contact us at the earliest opportunity. We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for the cancellation of our courses. For cancellations within 48 hours of the event, any course fee paid will be retained. Fees will also be retained if you do not attend the session on the set date. All courses are subject to change or cancellation suitable notification will be provided.
