Advance Care Planning with ReSPECT Awareness

any professionals (care and nursing home staff, carers in the community and health care professionals) who work with life-limiting conditions or have an interest in developing their knowledge around end of life care

Advance Care Planning, including ReSPECT Awareness, helps people make informed choices about their future care and communicate what matters most to them. This important approach encourages open conversations between individuals, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring wishes, values, and treatment preferences are understood and respected. ReSPECT supports compassionate, person-centred decision-making in emergencies and routine care alike. By raising awareness, this initiative empowers communities to plan ahead with confidence, reduces uncertainty during difficult moments, and promotes dignity, clarity, and reassurance for everyone involved. It is a positive step toward better care, stronger communication, and more meaningful support for every individual.

What will I learn from this course (learning objectives)?

  • Explain the principles and purpose of advance care planning (ACP) and person-centred decision-making
  • Apply the ReSPECT process and documentation in practice
  • Interpret and use a ReSPECT form appropriately in emergency situations
