Supporting Difficult Emotions in Hospice Care: When to Hold, When to Refer

Hospice work brings deeply emotional moments. This practical, hands‑on session builds confidence in what to say, how to support someone in acute distress, and how to know when the Emotional Wellbeing Team (EWT) should step in.

In this session you will learn to:

  • Offer a clear, empathic 60–90 second response in moments of distress
  • Recognise common grief patterns seen in hospice settings
  • Distinguish “first‑line emotional support” from “time to refer”
  • Use the EWT referral checklist confidently
  • Practise boundaries and quick self‑regulation tools for difficult shifts
  • Create a personal “step‑away plan” to support your emotional safety

Session date:

  • 29th September 2026 between 14:30 and 16:00 in Oaks 2

This session is also available on:

  • 17th November 2026 between 14:30 and 16:00 in Oaks 2
