Sunflower Memories

Remember someone special this summer

Proudly supported by

This summer, you're invited to dedicate a beautiful sunflower emblem to remember someone special in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice.

The commemorative event will take place in the hospice garden on Sunday 12 August 2018 from 2pm - 4pm and you're invited to preview the beautiful display of sunflowers and take time to reflect on memories. Refreshments will also be available for you to enjoy.

In return for a donation to the hospice, the name of your loved one will adorn one of our sunflower markers and be planted in dedicated wooden wheelbarrows. These will decorate our beautiful garden, creating a sea of colour.

The sunflowers will remain on display until Monday 3 2018 for patients, families, volunteers, staff and visitors to enjoy. You are welcome to come along to the hospice at any time to see them. From Tuesday 4 September, the sunflowers will be available for you to collect from the hospice reception until Friday 28 September 2018.

Our story

Joanne Kingshott will be dedicating a sunflower to her husband David during our Sunflower Memories appeal. David had cancer and spent his final months being cared for in the in-patient unit at St Elizabeth Hospice, where he passed away in September.

As Joanne says: “You don’t realise how important St Elizabeth Hospice is until you really need it. And as we learned after my husband David was admitted, the care they give at your greatest time in need is unfaultable. The nursing team bent over backwards to get to know David and make him as comfortable as possible.

“We were lucky enough that David had a room with patio doors that overlooked the garden. When the hospice held Sunflower Memories last year, my brother, his wife and their two-year-old daughter were visiting from Melbourne. My sister-in-law dedicated a sunflower to her mum who had passed away at the hospice a couple of years earlier - it really was a lovely experience as the garden looked pretty and my niece had great fun trying to push the wheelbarrows. David was delighted to be part of that special day.

“As a family, along with my two sons Freddi, 12, and Jenson, 10, we are all coming to terms with our loss. This year, on 12 August I will be taking part in Sunflower Memories to remember David. I think it’s so important to support St Elizabeth Hospice as you can’t fully appreciate the work they do until you see it for yourself. It does not bear thinking about how different our lives would have been without all the hospice staff and I really can’t think of anything the hospice team could do to improve on the care they provide. It’s amazing and humbling to think that kind donations and the work of fundraisers enabled David to receive the care he needed in his final months.”
