Tributes paid to hospice supporter, Valerie, who leaves a ‘fantastic legacy, full of kindness’

07 June 2023

Tributes have been paid to St Elizabeth Hospice supporter, Valerie Talbott, after she died aged 65-years-old on 5th May.

Born and bred in Suffolk, Valerie was a much-loved face to many in the local area and in recent months helped raise over £3,000 for independent Suffolk charity, St Elizabeth Hospice after she completed a bungee jump in memory of her best friend John Hunt, who received support from the hospice.

“She was just a lovely, lovely woman and everybody loved her to pieces,” said Roly Talbott, Valerie’s husband of 36 years.

“So colourful, always with a smile on her face and also very brave. Whatever she said she was going to do, she made sure she did it, such as the bungee jump for the hospice in John’s memory.

“We met at a local haulage company where I worked as a driver and she worked in the invoicing team. Instantly we connected and never looked back.

“John and his wife Linda are dear friends of both Valerie and myself. On John’s deathbed she promised him she would do something silly to support the hospice to thank the charity for their amazing care, and as ever, she did it!

“I am so proud of her fantastic fundraising for the hospice and at Valerie’s funeral we have asked for no flowers but instead for people to make donations to St Elizabeth Hospice.”

From Bury St Edmunds, Valerie and Roly have been friends with John and Linda Hunt for over 30 years, after having met at Motocross – an off-road motorcycle racing sport both they and their families loved.

Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraising Assistant at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “On behalf of the whole St Elizabeth Hospice team, I would like to send all our love and wishes to Roly and his family.

“Having met and spoken with Valerie many times during her hospice fundraising journey, I know what a special person she was and she leaves a fantastic legacy, full of kindness and one which has made such a difference to her local community.”

Valerie Talbott’s funeral will take place on Friday 16 June from 2.30pm at St Mary’s Church in Bury St Edmunds.
