Join the dragons for a great day out

06 July 2011

Over 20 teams have already signed up for the Hospice’s Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 25th September at Alton Water near Holbrook.

Teams of up to 10 people will paddle each 30ft boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. They will battle it out over a 200m course watched by crowds of spectators.

Sara White, Corporate Fundraiser at the Hospice, said: “The Dragon Boat Race will be exciting, colourful and great fun. Cheer along teams as they take part in three races with the fastest teams going through to semi finals and then a grand final. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit.

There will also be food, drink and entertainment on the day making it a great day out for all the family. We are also pleased to announce that there will be a Battle of Britain flypast which will be a great addition to the day.”

The first race is at 10.30am.

All proceeds will help St Elizabeth Hospice, an independent charity which costs £6.6million a year to run, provide services free of charge for patients throughout Suffolk as well as support for their relatives and carers.
