Hospice joins with Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community to mark Tu B’Shvat
St Elizabeth Hospice joined with Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community to mark Tu B’Shvat, an important date in the Jewish calendar as a New Year for Trees.
To recognise Tu B’Shvat the hospice and Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community planted a Japanese Acer in the hospice garden this April, after Covid-19 saw the initial planned planting date in January postponed.
Beverley Levy, Chair of Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community, said: “It is a great pleasure to be contributing to the garden at St Elizabeth Hospice, in recognition of the work the hospice does, their importance in the overall community.
“We enjoyed the warm welcome of St Elizabeth Hospice staff for this tree planting event. Your garden is a haven of peace, and it is wonderful to be adding to this, with some acknowledgement, in the form of a plaque, that our community is part of this.”
The tree is symbolic in Jewish teachings as representing wisdom and the tree of life, with the planting in the hospice garden highlighting Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community’s appreciation for the work of the independent Suffolk charity in the local community.
Helen Finlinson, Head of Inclusion and Development at St Elizabeth Hospice, added: “It was lovely to welcome Suffolk Liberal Jewish Community to mark Tu B’Shvat with the planting of the Japanese Acer in the hospice garden.
“I am sure it will grow into a beautiful tree which will be loved and appreciated by all the hospice patients, their families and the hospice staff, who enjoy spending time in the peaceful garden we have here.”
