Friends Raise Funds for Hospice in Memory of Tim Melton

07 July 2023

More than £7,500 has been raised for St Elizabeth Hospice by a group of friends, in memory of their friend Tim Melton.

The brilliant amount has been raised through a series of fundraising activities in Tim’s memory, with the most recent being a golf day, held on 1st July, at Ufford Park. An event which saw 32 golfers and over 120 people attend the day and evening raffle which on its own, raised £3,686.00, in memory of Tim Melton, who died age 50-years-old during a vehicle accident in 2022.

A familiar face to many in the local community, Tim, a Director at Firetrace Ltd, was also a keen golfer and for his 50th birthday, he and a group of friends celebrated with a golf weekend at Ufford Park. So this year’s fundraising golf day at Ufford Park served as a fitting tribute, with proceeds raised going to the hospice, a charity which Tim had fundraised for himself on many occasions.

Peter Lenney, friend of Tim and who was among the group who organised the fundraising day, said: “Tim was just one of the kindest and genuine individuals you could ever meet.

“He was always helping people using his electrical and engineering skills and nothing was too much trouble. He enjoyed playing golf, socialising with friends and doted on his wife Michaela and daughter Georgia.

“It feels amazing to have raised so much money for this wonderful cause and we would just like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all who donated money and prizes, attended the events, bought tickets and generally supported in memory of a genuinely wonderful person who is dearly missed by us all.”

The golf day was the third fundraising activity hosted in Tim’s memory this year with the Firetrace team raising funds by completing the Bungay Half Marathon. While Tim’s friend, Kevin Butler, organised a cycle ride, which saw riders complete varying distances, with a special mention to 14-year-old Amelie Jackson, who lives with Ushers Syndrome, and completed a 10 mile ride alongside her father, David.

All the funds raised have been donated to St Elizabeth Hospice, which every year delivers specialist palliative care to more than 3,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

Kelly Nekrews, Community Fundraising Assistant at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “A massive well done and thank you to Peter and everyone who has supported and helped organise the fundraising activities in Tim’s memory.

“You have raised an amazing amount for the hospice and your funds will make such a difference as we expand our services to support more people throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, during difficult times in their lives.”

The final fundraising event in Tim’s Memory will be in September, when his friend, Darren Norton, will undertake a tandem parachute jump and donations can be made by visiting
