First independent care home recognized by hospice scheme
Westerfield Care Home has become the first independent care home to be recognized by St Elizabeth Hospice’s care home accreditation scheme.
The hospice has been working with the care home over the last 11 months to help improve the quality and standards in the end of life care provided to residents.
This is the fifth care home to achieve the accreditation after exceeding the hospice’s expectations with their end of life care after working with the hospice education team.
Mark Millar, chief executive of St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “This is the first independent care home to have achieved this status with us and my team has been full of praise for how the care home has embraced our accreditation scheme.
“The team has been eager to work with us and have taken all our training and support on board. Westerfield House is now also part of our care home alliance group which involves all the care homes we are working with to achieve their accreditation.
“It’s extremely encouraging for us to work with care homes like this to try and raise the standards or care for residents living here.
“I would like to congratulate the staff on their application and dedication which is exemplary to the people living here and we are very proud to be associated with you.”
Louise Coote, registered manager at Westerfield House, said: “We are all very pleased to have been awarded accreditation to the St Elizabeth Hospice in recognition of the excellent end of life care that we provide which would have not been possible if not for our dedicated staff. We are very proud of Westerfield House, the team and all of our residents which make our home what it is.”
