Brother and sister take on Captain Tom 100 Challenge in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice

A brother and sister are taking on the Captain Tom 100 Challenge in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice to show their gratitude to the staff and hospice for the care and support they gave to their family.

Being held in tribute to Captain Tom Moore, across the weekend of his birthday, the Captain Tom 100 Challenge encourages people to raise money for charity by completing a fundraising challenge featuring the number of 100, whether this is a 100 mile bike ride, dancing for 100 minutes or baking 100 cakes.

From 30th April to 3rd May, Louisa and Theo Adde will both cover 101 miles, through four days of walking and cycling, in memory of their relative Kevin Sloane and to mark the 101st birthday of their Grandma, Madge Fowler, who lives in Woodbridge and who celebrated her landmark birthday this year.

Louisa and Theo, who both live in London but share a love of Suffolk through spending many family holidays in Aldeburgh, Felixstowe and Woodbridge visiting relatives, have been inspired to raised funds for the hospice, after their mother’s cousin, Kevin, received care from St Elizabeth Hospice, at home and in the hospice’s Inpatient Unit, before his death at the hospice in 2019.

Louisa said: “St Elizabeth Hospice were amazing during Kevin’s last few months and provided so much support to him and his wife Rachel. Theo and I were both very close to Kevin and we were keen to find a way to give back to the hospice, in order to say thank you for their care and support.

“The Captain Tom 100 Challenge seemed a perfect way to do this and as we hadn’t been able to see Grandma on her 101st birthday this year we thought completing an extra mile for good measure would be a special way to mark her birthday as well, especially as she was very close to Kevin.

“We have been doing lots of cycling and walking during lockdown, so we feel prepared and excited but still a little nervous. However, as the pubs are allowed to open outdoors once more, we will be sure stop for lunch along our way!”

Louisa is no stranger to completing endurance challenges in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice as in October 2020, she raised £2,900 for the independent Suffolk charity through completing the London Marathon in memory of Kevin.
