Despite the incessant onslaught of rain on the night of 12 May 2018, around 2,000 people joined together at Trinity Park in Ipswich to walk the six, or ten mile route of the hospice’s annual midnight walk, and raised a staggering £230k.
To say the conditions were challenging not only for the organisers, but also for the walkers would be an understatement, but despite the downpour, Hospice UK has labelled the midnight walk in Ipswich as the country’s most successful in terms of the money raised and the number of participants.
Director of income generation, Rachel Backshall said: “This accolade is testament to our incredible supporters who didn’t let the rain put them off and still showed up with enthusiasm, embracing the neon and sparkle theme to raise the vital funds we need to care for local people.
Without this kind of commitment from our supporters we simply could not provide the level of care that we do, so on behalf of the hospice we would like to say a huge thank you for your generosity, kindness, and ongoing support.”
