Hospice Sculpture Unveiled in Recognition of St Elizabeth Hospice Legators

In recognition of those who have left a gift in their Will to the hospice, St Elizabeth Hospice has commissioned a sculpture which has been placed in the hospice’s beautiful garden to acknowledge the support received from generous legators.

The commemorative stone, named Window of Eternity, was revealed to invited next of kin of past legators and people who have pledged to leave a gift in their Will on Sunday 7 April, unveiled by Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Lynne Mortimer.

Lynn Maskell, Legacy and In Memory Officer, said: “Our Window of Eternity is dedicated to all of the amazing people who have left the hospice a gift in their Will.  We feel it is important to recognise all these individuals in this way. The idea behind the stained glass, which features flowers and bees, is that bees help the world to survive and flourish in the same way that legacies help the future of the hospice. From our records we have over 700 legacies that have helped us to provide palliative care to date. Income from gifts in Wills is vitally important to the hospice, as currently 1 in 5 of our patients are cared for as a result”.

St Elizabeth Hospice would especially like to thank Collins and Curtis Masonry Ltd, who made and donated the stone. Alongside them, the beautiful stained glass which is incorporated into the stone, was designed, made and donated by Stained Glass Window Company and Hudson Signs have provided the information sign. Our thanks to all these businesses for making the Window of Eternity a possibility.

Lynn Maskell added: “St Elizabeth Hospice is so grateful to the wonderful people who have very kindly left us a gift in their Will and placing the Window of Eternity in our hospice garden is our way of recognising this. We feel that the 35th anniversary of the hospice starting services is a good time to unveil it. It will mean a lot to the next of kin of these people in knowing that the generosity and kindness of their loved one is valued and appreciated by the hospice”.
