Consultant in Palliative Medicine within Eastern Region
St Elizabeth Hospice is looking for a consultant in Palliative Medicine to support the provision of Specialist Palliative Care.
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine of the General Medical Council, or should have completed a training programme leading to the CCT in Palliative Medicine (or be within 6 months of completion of a Specialty Registrar Training Programme in Palliative Medicine).

The post covers up to 10 Programmed Activities for hospice services, with approximately 1 in 7 second on call commitment with an on-call supplement. St Elizabeth Hospice is an ‘Outstanding’ hospice looking for dynamic and forward thinking colleagues to help develop the comprehensive clinical services. Your role will be to enhance the established team to develop further innovative services so patients experience seamless care. You will have the opportunity to be involved in Clinical Audit and Research, and add to the extensive programme of education delivery to medical and non-medical staff.

St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent hospice, with approximately 27.5% NHS funding and sufficient reserves to cover several years’ running costs.
The Hospice opened in 1989 and provides a full range of specialist palliative care services to Ipswich and East Suffolk area and extends into Waveney and parts of Norfolk. There are 18 beds, a specialist palliative care day centre (3 days a week) and 2 wellbeing days, outpatient clinics, a 24 hour hospice at home service (provided by specialist nurses) and an education centre and library. The consultants at St Nicholas Hospice (Bury St Edmunds), and St Elizabeth Hospice (Ipswich) work collaboratively together and share a second on-call consultant rota.
There is a full multi-professional team including an Emotional Wellbeing Team, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Chaplain, Art and Music Therapists, and Complementary Therapists.
The Hospice has a Chief Executive, Mark Millar, and a Senior Management Team which includes the Medical Director, Director of Patient Services, Director of Income Generation, Head of Human Resources and Director of Corporate Services. There are three other Consultants in Palliative Medicine posts – one is currently filled by the Medical Director. There is a Specialty Registrar on the East of England Specialty Training Scheme and two Nurse Consultants. There are also 5 middle grade doctors providing support to both the IPU as well as the outpatient clinical areas. There is a rotating GP vocational training scheme doctor on 4 monthly attachment.
