St Elizabeth Hospice

Long serving trustee retires

Terence Mott, one of St Elizabeth Hospices longest serving trustees, is retiring this month.

Mr Mott, a former consultant in Radiotherapy and Oncology at Ipswich Hospital, played a fundamental role in starting the appeal for a Hospice in East Suffolk in 1983 and was instrumental in St Elizabeth Hospices opening in 1989. Mr Mott has served on the Board of Directors and Hospice management committee since the Hospice opened. He was also responsible for transferring Oncology services from Anglesea Road to the present site of Ipswich Hospital on Heath Road and collaborated in the design of a new unit there. Mr Mott retired from Ipswich Hospital in 1999 but continued consultancy work until 2002.

Lesley Cockerton, chief executive at St Elizabeth Hospice, commented We are extremely grateful to Mr Mott for his commitment and dedication to St Elizabeth Hospice since the very beginning and the vital role he played in the foundation of our Hospice. A lot has changed since the Hospice admitted its first patient in 1989 and Mr Mott has been instrumental in ensuring St Elizabeth caters for the ever changing needs of patients and their families. It is great that Mr Mott has been here to see the current £1 million building project in action which will improve the quality of care we can offer our patients and their families.

Mr Motts last day is Monday 14th April and there will be a small ceremony and presentation by Nick Ridley, chairman of St Elizabeth Hospices trustees, at the Hospice at 3pm.
