Conquer Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Climb to an altitude of 5895 metres. Marvel at the diverse ecosystem from cultivated farmlands on the lower levels, through lush rainforest and alpine meadow to a barren lunar landscape at the top. Watch sunrise from the summit. This is our most challenging event and is not for the faint hearted!

Itinerary
Day 1: Fly London – Nairobi.
Day 2: Fly Nairobi – Kilimanjaro.
Day 3: Start ascent from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut. 4½ hrs
Day 4: Long trek uphill through the cloud level to Horombo Hut. 7-8 hrs
Day 5: Acclimatisation day. Trek to Mawenzi Pass and back. 5 hrs
Day 6: Follow lower route to Kibo Hut through spectacular flora and fauna. 7-8 hrs
Day 7: Trek halfway to summit to acclimatise. 5 hrs
Day 8: Trek to the summit for sunrise. Return to Horombo Hut. 15-17 hrs
Day 9: Descend to Marangu Park Gate. Transfer to Moshi. Celebratory meal.
Day 10: Fly Kilimanjaro – Nairobi – London.
Day 11: Arrive London.
The challenge is offered in through Classic Tours. They offer:
- 7 day ascent and descent, the minimum climb recommended by the Royal Geographic Society to improve safety.
- The success rate of trekkers reaching the top is very high compared with shorter itineraries (Sept/Oct 2010 and Jan 2011 groups - 100% success rate).
- The service includes specialist high altitude equipment: Oxygen, Hyperbaric Chamber, practise run of the evacuation procedure.
- A Doctor with expedition medicine training treks with the group.
- There is an Information Day with a chance to meet yfellow trekkers and hear more about training, the trek and kit.
- Training weekends are available.
