Approach to care

St Elizabeth Hospice provides a multi-professional palliative care service giving specialist advice and care, supporting primary health care teams, statutory and non-statutory agencies as well as Ipswich Hospital.

Specialist palliative care is the active total care of patients with progressive advanced disease and a limited prognosis, including care and support for their families.

Highly specialised medical care and a full range of multi-professional support are delivered by practitioners with advanced knowledge and skills in palliative care.

The aims of care

The overall aims of the care we provide at St Elizabeth Hospice are:

  • To provide care for patients with advanced illnesses, including cancer, motor-neurone disease, AIDS/ HIV and any other life-threatening illnesses.
  • To maintain a calm, unhurried environment where patients can experience a realistic and good quality of life.
  • To enable patients wherever possible to be free of pain and other symptoms including emotional distress.
  • To support patients, families and carers.
