What is Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving is a tax effective way to donate to the Hospice. This means that you make your donation straight from your salary, or occupational pension, before tax, therefore it costs you less!

For example, a monthly gift of £5 will only cost you £3.90, if you pay the basic rate of tax.

Why is it a good idea?

It is easy, effective andyour regular support means that we can planfor the future by developing our services to help even more patients and their families. Because Payroll Giving costs you less, it also means that you can afford to give more, which makes a vital difference to our work.

How can I sign up?

In the first instance, approach your employer direct to see if your company has a Payroll Giving scheme set up. If they have a scheme in place please contact us and we will be pleased to arrange a visit to discuss Payroll Giving with your employer.

What if my employer does not have a Payroll Giving scheme?

Implementing Payroll Givingis a simple and quick process. Your employer needs to register with an HM Revenue & Customs approved Payroll Giving Agency, and have the facility to make pre-tax deductions on your payroll system. The payroll giving agencies will be able to talk your payroll department through the process.

The main HM Revenue & Customs approved Payroll Giving Agencies are:

How does it work?

Once your employer has confirmed they have a payroll giving scheme set up, you advise your payroll department that you wish to donate and they set up a pre tax deduction from your salary. This deduction is sent to the payroll giving agency your employer is registered with, and they send the donations on to the Hospice. Donations have to go through this channel in order to be tax effective.

What if I want to change my donation?

Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme.You can change your donation amount,or cancel your donations as and whenyou wish.
